Yeah, I remember. No one would’ve batted an eye about it if there weren’t so many falsehoods regarding race put out and fanned as flames in mainstream media.
I'm so glad to see this post - it seemed fashionable in some right-leaning circles to poo-poo Juneteenth because Biden signed it into law, and the media frequently played it as a race issue. But politics be damned, this is a great day! It should have been a holiday for the last 150+ years - this is the day the last Americans were freed from slavery!!!
people on the right should be the first to celebrate today ….. for me it stands equal to July 4th …. the bookends of our revolution …. declaring all men are equal and then making sure it is actually true.
The irony is that at the same time during the Civil War, the same govt., was forcing Native Americans on marches to relocate them to reservations, and many died on these marches, then when on these reservations forbidden to practice their traditions and way of life, basically stripping them of their way of life. Had their hair cut off, forbidden to speak their native laguages. And this was happen throughout the Civil War. Many of these marches took place like in 1863 where Navajo where marched by troops to the reservation. The hypocrisy is astounding.
Thanks for this. Many states have had Juneteenth on the books for a long time.
the Federal government did it in 2021, but there was a lot of political drama, unfortunately.
