Great article and reminds me of The Searchers when the Duke says he is only good for one OATH in a lifetime and that is the truth no one can serve two masters . As far as the public execution goes I see worse shit happening all day long that’s so much more disturbing than a terrorist being shot in the face doesn’t bother me probably seeing a high school kid die in front of me and I wasn’t ten yet and grew up in the murder capital so street violence is nothing new but I don’t see the point in live stream but if you’re an adult you’re able to see a FUCKIN TRAITOR get justice and should have been done long ago. If that’s upsetting you go look for slave children in bags being sold on the streets today or whole Christian villages wiped out or a mother killing her children and almost getting off cuz I would pay to see her execution, so to show or not too show……

"Killing your fellow soldiers, the very people you are explicitly bound by oath to protect and lead, is a crime beyond ordinary civilian treason. It is a desecration of the sacred covenant."

An excellent essay - thank you for it.

Hassan killed my friend's father in this incident. I haven't spoken to this person in many years but I wonder how they feel about all of this. I hope someone has cared enough to ask.

I have mixed feelings about executing him. Why is it necessary (notice I didn't use the word "just")? What purpose does it serve that keeping him buried in the bowels of a dungeon doesn't do? Won't this give him the notoriety that he desires?

Livestreaming his execution makes him into a grotesque entertainment commodity. It says something about us as a people that I don't like. I can't quite define it but I know that I don't like it.

If he must be executed, then I say do it quietly and bury the body at sea like we did with Bin Laden. No fanfare, no high tech ritualism, no chance for Trump and that human Chihuahua of his, Pete Hegseth, to claim any performative glory for anything related to this. Just make him gone and deny him the martyr status he so deeply craves and be done with it.

the execution is necessary, I pointed out, because of the very heinous nature of the crime. And more so, as the appropriate response to the breaking of the oath.

I’ll leave the rest alone. I said my say.

I see those reasons as being emotional instead of rational reasons. Executing him is gonna be like when Emilio Estevez played Billy The Kid in Young Guns... "I'll make you famous." I don't want Hassan to be famous.

Are any of the families of the victims demanding he be executed? I don't know the answer to that question but I would like to know. I hope that their wishes are respected.

I find the idea of making executions a live, pay per view style event to be extremely distasteful. I don't want that to be normalized. It's "too far" for me. It again brings me back to the questions of who wants this to be broadcast and why is doing so deemed to be necessary?

everybody has an opinion and most opinions are emotionally based. However, the law prescribes specific consequences for specific crimes. Applying the rule of law is objective, not emotional. Emotional is be swayed one direction or another by strong feelings rather than objective law.
