Security, Cigars, and FUD Comes To Substack
culture, politics, history, military service, cooking, bbq, whiskey, cigars, dogs, travel
We Start Again
I have written blogs many times over the years. Each time it kind of ended in a fizzle after months, and, in a few cases, years of writing. The blogs talked about a lot of things: culture, politics, history, military service, cooking, bbq, wine and whiskey, cigars, dogs, travel, and much more. Don’t expect that to change here.
Why, you ask, yet another blog?
My goal is restart my writing. I have two significant creative outlets in my life. One is cooking, especially outdoor cooking. The other is writing. I want to pursue both, and maybe even have them intersect here, as I’ve done on my cooking blog, Smoke, Wine, and Whiskey. If you’re interested in what other places I’ve blogged at look like, here’s links to them:
Why Substack?
After all, I could have just restarted writing on my existing blogs. And maybe I will. But Substack seems to have two benefits to it. The first is that I’ve been in Substack as a reader for a while now and have made some connections that I like. And the second is that the subscriptions here are likely to push me to have more discipline about my writing. We’ll see. Aside from that, I like Substack’s commitment to free speech and lack of censorship.
What’s It Going To Be Like?
I plan to write at least one long piece per week on any of the topics that this Substack is about. And daily I read, comment, restack as well. I will probably knock out some 1-2 paragraph notes throughout the week as well.
If I decide to turn on paid subscriptions, this is what I’m thinking
Free Subscribers get long view of posts
Paid Subscribers get full posts and can comment
Founding Subscribers get my undying love and will occasionally get their thoughts and comments included in my writing.
Welcome Aboard!
We’ll see how this goes and how much fun we can have.
