Wow, that sounds like an awesome time! There's no way the wife would sign off on that, but I'd do it in a heartbeat. Don't have the deployment experience and I'd need to effectively put myself through basic training again, but it'd be a great reason to do so. Besides, 2 Eric's would get confusing 🤣
I'm at the 50/50 this will happen stage right now. One of the things is to get my wife's sign off ... although she's used to me doing crazy stuff. Funny about Erics, at one point I was in a company that had 4 guys named Eric. Good thing my first name was staff sergeant ;-)
Dang, I hope you do it! I backpacked and hitched through some of those countries in my 20's and it will be a hell of an adventure. I just returned from Tibet and Everest base camp and I'm 70, and that made me feel alive again. Go for it!
Great idea. Ironically, I only caught a few episodes of Long Way Back recently on a flight back from Europe. Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, and it gave me a hankering to dust off my still valid motorcycle license.

I hope I do too! And you doing the Everest base camp tells me I need to get going again if I want to catch up with you ;-)
I'm in the planning stages, this is a big one ... 90 days on the road, total. As I make progress, I'll update

I really liked The Long Way Down. And it re-awakened my thirst for adventure.
