A lovely story! Many thanks for sharing it.

My grandmother made palatschinken -- which Wikipedia says is Austrian, but which I assume came to us via Hungary. Delicious memories.

Austrian and Hungarian food is closely related because of the Austro-Hungarian empire, with Vienna and Budapest being co capitals. Another family recipe is hortobágyi palacsinta …. palacsinta are basically the same as palatschinke …. and then the palacsinta are filled with a stew, usually csirke paprikas … literally paprika chicken.

Very glad you enjoyed the story as well!
